On Tuesday Year 4 set off on an exciting adventure to Holland Park to attend a matinee showing of 'An Introduction to Opera'. Despite there being tube strikes, the children were all eager to set off on their walk in the sun to Holland Park!
On arrival we walked through the beautiful Kyoto Gardens admiring all of the flowers and water features as well as the wildlife living there. We then sat down in the shade and ate our lunch before heading on in to the big performance. The performance was incredible and was thoroughly enjoyed by all! We were introduced to the different instruments that make up an orchestra and the musicians showed us how they make different sounds using these. They also taught us about the history of some of the most well-known musicians. There were 4 opera singers in total and after each song they taught us many interesting facts, in particular about the different tones when singing opera (soprano, alto, tenor, bass and more!).
Following the production we were fortunate enough to meet the opera singers. They were very friendly and were happy to answer any of our questions. We even managed to get a photo with them!
Overall this was a very special day for Year 4 and we were very grateful for the opportunity.
