St John XXIII Catholic Primary School Inspiring Faith in our Future

Ash Wednesday Mass

On Wednesday the whole school gathered to receive ashes and begin our jounrey during Lent. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended mass at St Aidan’s. The choir sang beautifully and some children took an active part in the mass by delivering the readings. Father Mark spoke the children about how during Lent we focus on what makes us truly happy and that is being closer to God. To be closer to God we focus not on what is good for us but how we can serve others.

In the afternoon children from EYFS, Year 1 and 2 tethered in the parish hall to receive ashes and learn about our preparation during Lent. Along with all Catholics, we will focus on prayer, fasting and alms giving this Lent and have plenty of events planned to help provide children with the opportunity to map their own journey with Christ during Lent.
