St John XXIII Catholic Primary School Inspiring Faith in our Future

MIND parent coffee morning

On Monday, we held an engaging workshop for our Year 6 parents, focused on equipping them with the necessary tools to support their children in managing stress, especially as we approach the all-important SATs. The session was led by the wonderful Rosie Spencer, our Mental Health and Support Worker from the mental health charity Mind, who brought her expertise to the discussion.

Parents had an opportunity to to share their experiences and concerns regarding their children’s stress levels in the lead-up to exams. Rosie facilitated an open dialogue, creating a friendly atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable to contribute. She shared practical strategies and techniques that parents can employ at home, including mindfulness exercises and the importance of maintaining a balanced routine.

The workshop was particularly useful for parents, as they gained insight into recognising signs of stress in children and how to approach the subject with sensitivity and understanding. Rosie emphasised the significant role that open communication plays in alleviating anxiety, encouraging parents to engage in conversations about feelings and pressures their children may be facing.

Workshops like these can make a meaningful difference in supporting our children’s well-being, especially during this challenging time. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to such a productive morning.
