We learned the months of the year in Spanish. We even have a dance to go with it! Have a look!
We having been learning how to count in Spanish! Ask us how to count to 20 in Spanish- we've worked really hard on remembering those números!
Thank you to all the children in 2F who brought in such beautiful flowers for Our Lady. We spent some time reflecting at her statue, said prayers to our Lady, and admired the beautiful flowers- despite the rain!
We have been so lucky to experience some fantastic tennis sessions in PE. It takes some quick co-ordination to hit the ball on target but we really try!
In Maths, we started using our division skills to work with fractions. We know that a fraction is a part of a whole number or shape. Here, we are using our counters to represent different fractions like halves, quarters and thirds.
In our story The Robot and the Bluebird, the little bluebird was so tired and hungry from fighting against the cold, harsh winds of winter. We decided we were going to make bird feeders so the bluebird would have something to eat after the difficult winter. We mixed lard, cheese, bird seed, and raisins and put them into yoghurt pots. Then we went outside and hung them in trees for the birds to eat!
In Geography we are learning all about Northern Europe. This involves Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Here we are looking at physical features and human features in Northern Europe. After learning about and discussing different features like coniferous forests, churches, fjords and the amazing Aurora Borealis, we compared them to physical features in the UK!
Look at our beautiful Easter bonnets! As part of our preparation for Easter, we talk about how Easter is a time to celebrate and remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We paraded around the playground to show off our beautiful bonnets!
We had bundles of fun looking for chocolate eggs in our playground! Easter Egg Hunts are an Eastertide activity and it was so much fun working together to find these yummy treats! The egg, an symbol of new life, represents Jesus' emergence from the tomb and his resurrection. We have learned about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in our RE lessons!
STEAM
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.
Imagine learning about all those areas in fun sessions with your friends! Well that's exactly what we do in Year 2. We investigated waterproof materials, which will link to our new science topic in Spring. Our investigation question was based around which shoes would have the best grip in wet conditions, like the rain. We discussed which materials would be waterproof and which would not. We made predictions before we carried out our investigation.
How to carry out a Minibeast Hunt: by the experts in Year 2
Here's how you can find lots of different kinds of minibeasts:
Look how we use different Maths resources to help us with our thinking.
This week, we have been using tens frames and hundred squares to help us to add and subtract different numbers.
We've been crossing tens!
We know what 13-5 equals to. We also know what 25-8 equals to. We are adding and subtracting with big numbers!
We started adding this week! How fun!
Here, we are using ten frames and tens and ones counters.
We know that by adding 10 (1 ten) and 6 (6 ones) you get 16.
Soon, we will be able to add even bigger numbers!
Our counters help us to organise our thinking and shows us exactly what adding looks like.
This week, we wanted to investigate the differences between different numbers. We know that some numbers are bigger than others, some are smaller than others and some are equal.
See how we have used the greater than (>), less than (<) and equal to (=) symbols?
We are showing how different resources can be used to make the same numbers.
We work together to solve problems with these numbers, such as; "is 34 greater than, less than or equal to 66?"
In Maths in September, we have been working with numbers. We use Base 10 to create different numbers, which help us to understand tens and ones.
We love to work together and use different Maths resources to help us figure things out!
