Spring 2

Art through English - If All the World Were

The children in Year 1 have been exploring the tale 'If All the World Were'.

In this lesson, they explored the beautiful, eye-catching illustrations and took the time to create their own paintings inspired by the text, exploring the theme of emotions.

This half term, the children have had great fun in designing and creating their very own finger puppets!

Kings and Queens Experience Day!

Our school experience day on the topic of 'Kings and Queens' was a very exciting one!

The children came to school dressed in their finest party clothing ready for a Medieval Banquet!

They had a wonderful time creating their very own crowns and coins before tucking in to a Medieval Feast in the afternoon.

The experience was a great success!

Giving Day

Year 1 are extremely proud to have taken part in the school's Giving Day by completing daily laps around the playground! Well done to all who took part and a HUGE thank you to all who sponsored us!

Maths - Place Value to 50!

In Maths this half term, we are exploring numbers to 50. So far, we have been learning how many tens and ones make up numbers from 20-50. We have been using a range of practical resources, such as base 10 to make and represent numbers to 50. We are also learning to count in our 10s!

Representing Numbers!

In Maths, we have grown in confidence in exploring place value in numbers to 50. We worked with a variety of practical resources to make numbers up to 50 in 4 different ways, ensuring we had the correct amount of tens and ones each time. We even challenged ourselves to draw our own visual representation of the numbers too!

Number line to 50!

This half term in maths we have been learning about place value to 50! Today we were learning to identify and pace numbers on a number line to 50. The children were very excited to use chalk outside on the playground.

Comparing numbers!

In maths, the children have been learning to compare number to 50! They have used a range of resources and key vocabulary such as 'more/greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to' as well as the corresponding comparison signs >, < and =.

World Book Day!

World Book Day in Year 1 was a success! The children were very excited to share with one another their favourite stories and book characters. At the end of the day, we joined Year 1 and Year 4 classes for paired reading. The children had lots of fun!!
