Year 3 took a trip to London Docklands to visit City Hall - we learned all about the responsibilities of the Mayor of London and how the Mayor makes decisions in the capital city. The children received a fabulous talk on the history of London's culture and transport - we ended the day with a trip in the IFS Cloud Cable Car and our lunch by the river!
We looked at various artistic interpretations of the Ascension of Christ in RE.
We measured various classroom and kitchen items in grams and kilograms. We've come to understand that there are 1000g in 1kg.
Our main character wrote us a letter - he wants to know all about the water cycle! Isaac eagerly awaits Y3's reply.
In order to best understand how to use a scales, we measured the ingredients for Rice Krispie Buns using our weighing scales - delicious!
We created posters all about Fair Trade - we linked this to our learning about Dignity of Workers in Autumn 1.
We used non-fiction texts and non-chronological reports to find out facts about rivers - this will help us in our writing.
We used a pan balance to discuss heavy and light - we then went onto comparing items using key vocabulary such as 'heavier' and 'lighter' - we eventually tried to balance the scales so that the weights were equal.
We learned about a variety of determiners and then went on to using them in sentences.
We investigated what impacts the size and shapes of shadows by photographing our shadows at various points in the day - we then discussed how the Earth's position can impact our shadows - our shadows were the longest in the early morning and the late afternoon - and the shortest at midday!
We used a variety of art materials to create artwork that showcased the new vocabulary we've been learning about - meander, waterfall and valley were some of our new key words!
Y3's final worship was centred around Victory in Europe Day - the day in 1945 that the Germans surrendered. We discussed the ongoing fight for peace in our world and how that links to our Jubilee Year of Hope in the Church.
We learned how to calculate perimeter - today, shapes in our classroom, next; the playground!
As part of our learning in English, we went to the park - we used our senses to write descriptive sentences and used adjectives to describe the scenes around us.
We learned about using apostrophes to show possession - we were given mixed up sentences and had to put the apostrophes in the right places!
We explored how shadows are made and how to change the size and shape of our shadows.
We worked on converting and finding equivalent lengths; millimetres, centimetres and metres.
Using images of artefacts from Ancient Greece, we discovered what daily life was like in Ancient Greece; what people wore, what jobs they had, and what their houses looked like.
To understand what a standard unit of measure is, we read "How Big Is a Foot?" by Rolf Myller. We then measured our tables using different resources. We discovered a problem - all the results were different! We discussed the necessity for a standard unit of measure - the centimetre (cm).
