On Thursday 27th March, Year 5 visited Hammersmith Fire Station. The trip had been eagerly anticipated (by the children and adults) and so we made good time getting down there and were keenly waiting at the door when our tour guide, Paul, welcomed us.
Paul, a firefighter at Hammersmith Fire Station, showed us all around one of the fire appliances that is based at there. He showed us a lot of the equipment the fire engines carry and explained to us what it was used for. We of course all got the opportunity to sit in the fire engine and Miss Cahill jumped at the opportunity to try on the firefighting uniform and breathing apparatus.
We then got a tour around the fire station from Paul, who also demonstrated the use of the pole to get from the upper floors of the station to the fire engines.
Just as we were about to leave, the second fire engine based at Hammersmith returned and we then got an opportunity to spray the hoses at some targets in the yard. Thankfully it was a warm day because all of the children got a lot wetter than initially intended. A good time was had by all.
