St John XXIII Catholic Primary School Inspiring Faith in our Future

Year 5 and 6 Bikeability

Year 5 and 6 children participated in 5 bikeability sessions last week in sunshine and showers.

As part of their Level One training, the children learnt the basics of bike maintenance and how to perform simple repairs to ensure their bikes are roadworthy.

For Level Two, the children learnt:

- how to stop, start and pass parked vehicles safely
- how to successfully negotiate side roads and T-junctions

- the importance of identifying and responding to potential dangers on the road

- how to share the road with other road users and communicate their intentions clearly
- understanding and complying with traffic signals, signs and road marking.

It was a great week and the children really enjoyed safely whizzing around the roads of White City. We hope they will take everything they have learnt into all future cycling to ensure they are safe and responsible road users. Well done all and safe cycling!
