Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic day learning about the Vikings and the
Anglo-Saxons. In the morning, pupils had the chance to explore
ancient writing by learning how to write in Viking runes. Then, they
designed their own Viking shields and displayed them in our history
display. After that, they worked in teams to make a Viking long boat,
which was also displayed in the classroom.
In the afternoon, the pupils played a few invasion games, where they
worked in teams to get to the other side of the river in their long boats
(blue mats). They also did “spear throwing” using foam javelins as well
as playing a game called “Monks against Vikings”, in which they have
to cross the wall that the monks were defending to steal their
valuables.
Just before home time, the pupils did a quiz on their laptops
about all they had learned throughout the day and in previous
lessons.
