5K Challenge @ Linford Christie Stadium
On Friday, some children from Year 5 & 6 took part in a 5K challenge at Linford Christie Stadium. They had to use their leadership skills, deciding how to divide up the race into parts based on what they know about their running capabilities or strengths depending on whether they prefer 1-2 hard sprints or 4-5 slightly slower paced runs. They competed in heats and then a final. The children had to support each other, collaborating and encouraging each other to persevere. Although the event was competitive, it was also a enjoyable sports event for children who don't ordinarily take part in sporting events in the borough.
This event was organised by The United by Birmingham 2022 Programme and was aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of young people across the country.
