St John XXIII Catholic Primary School Inspiring Faith in our Future

Year 3/4 Athletics Tournament

A select group of Year 3 and 4 children were picked to represent the school in the Borough Indoor Athletics tournament at Sacred Heart. For some, it would be their first time representing the school in a sporting event and so there was a definitely a buzz of excitement in the air and no doubt a few nerves as we entered the venue.

The event would consist of a range of relay events and six field events.

The children learned the value of teamwork and sportsmanship and readily supported eachother from the sidelines throughout. There was a great sense of energy amongst the group and we were able to channel ourselves enough to gain some good victories in the races. A special mention goes to George in Year 4, who ran his heart out in both his races and impressed the staff and children alike with his performance. Arabella and Julia in Year 3 showed great promise in their races against Year 4 girls with some great times in the longer distance races. The boys relay team won the 4 x 1 lap race with a very quick time with Valentino in Year 3 being the only pupil from his cohort to make that team.

Overall, we were able to muster enough points to finish second overall, a great achievement and also an experience which will serve them well for future London tournaments in Years 5 and 6. Most importantly, we had a huge amount of fun and it gave a lot of their children their first feeling of competitive sport which will hopefully bring them back for more events in the future.
