Mayors Cup Football Results - Friday 6th May 2022

V Addison (Girls and Boys)

Our final game of the campaign saw us lead out a strong but youthful side for both fixtures. Comprising of Year 3, 4 and 5, with Year 6 enjoying some SATS revision, we used the game to recruit younger talent to the squad for next year. This gave valuable minutes to our talented yet inexperienced new crop of players who took their opportunity with both hands.

We gave instructions for the children to play with relative freedom albeit with some defensive structure. The girls fought out an evenly matched 0-0 draw with a dogged performance, especially from a defensive point of view. They have battled resiliently all season and have made good progress in terms of their positional play and preventing goal scoring opportunities. However, chances of our own have been at a premium and next year we will look to be more attacking through better control of our passing and movement into dangerous spaces.

The boys ran out a comfortable 2 - 0 win and showed great control moving the ball through the thirds to start promising attacks.  In consistent with our season, we sometimes lacked in composure and decision making with our final pass which is something we can improve on next year through training and experience. Having said that, two great moments of individual quality sealed the game for us from Alano and Charlie both in Year 4R. The former intercepted a pass into midfield before dispatching the ball into the top left hand corner, whilst Charlie showed great composure to beat two men on the edge of the box before hitting a fierce  drive leaving the goalkeeper very little chance of making a save.

It has been a mixed season in terms of results but one of the best in terms of dominating possession and developing individual players. Next Year should be a bright one for both teams with the Year 3's and 4's being a Year older and their experiences this year will stand us in good stead. We play the game with the right attitude, sense of respect and sportsmanship and support each other well throughout.
