St John XXIII Catholic Primary School Inspiring Faith in our Future

KS2 Rugby Tournament

This week we took part in our first Tag Rugby League competition at Burlington Danes. We hope this will be the first of many. Comprised of Year 4 and 5 pupils, who train with Mr Booth on Thursday, the children relished the chance to show off their skills in a competitive environment. We discussed how we would approach the game tactically to exploit spaces to gain territory and also how we could stop the opposition from scoring. The children carried out the tactics impressively and were a constant threat when running with the ball.

After a tight 1-0 loss to Addison, we subsequently earned 2-1 win over West London Free School and a 0 - 0 draw with Queen's Manor. Although we just missed out on qualification to the next round we accumulated 9 points in total and we can definitely be proud of our performances and sense of sportsmanship throughout. Special mentions go to Samira and Edison who carried the ball effectively often beating four or five players to advance up the pitch, the two combining very well to score our tries.

We look forwards to building on the foundations set for this year and we will definitely be encouraging more recruits across the school for next year. A very successful morning and the children can be proud of their progress.
